Finally! The tourists hoades had disappeared and I had the famous bridge over the River Kwai, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, almost all to myself.
I clicked away with my camera, quickly filling up the memory cards with shots I would barely even glance at later. In the distance, I kept hearing some kind of bell. I briefly what it was, but ignored it.
Suddenly, a thundering horn blew. I turned – to see a passenger train coming up behind me. Then I realised why the bridge had emptied.
Red-faced and grinning sheepishly, I quickly made it to the safety of a siding to let the train pass. It was, without a doubt, the most excitement I had during my entire brief stay in Thailand.
