Photo Friday: Sisowath Quay at dusk

May 27, 2011

Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh at dusk

This photo was taken in Phnom Penh during the magic hour – that brief time between dusk and night when the light is just right.

The light is perfect at dusk, but there’s another reason to take photos during the ‘magic hour’. It usually coincides with rush hour.

This shot from Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh, Cambodia was taken not long after school had let out. Mothers had taken their children down to the Quay and the riverside was a cacophony of voices and motorbikes.

    Dreamlike photo:)
I find taking pics in that time of the day is not so easy! It’s hard to get the right exposure (for me, at least!).
That said, wish I was there! :p

Thanks Giulia! I find shooting with a larger aperture helps at this time of day. But sometimes, even if you don’t get it right the picture can still accidentally come out beautiful (whether it’s with lens flares or whatever) – my advice is for you to take a second look at all the pictures you think turned out badly – because you never know! 🙂

Wow, this picture is stunning. There is something so innocent about it.

Thanks Mariah 🙂 It has a very carefree vibe about it, I think!

Gorgeous light. I love taking photos at that time of day! The photo is a simple scene but it really has a vibe to it.

Thanks Steph! This and just after sunrise are my favourite times of day too – I really want to get out and do more shooting at these times on my upcoming trip! It can be so easy to get distracted from photography by breakfast and dinner 😉
